Frequently Asked Questions
You’ve got questions? We’ve got answers! Check out these frequently asked questions about Cornucopia Living and see how we are busting the most common myths of different kinds of sheets.
Organic cotton is produced and processed cleanly and without chemicals whatsoever. Some cotton, like the high quality Supima cotton yarn we use for our sateen sheets, is so superior that it doesn’t need to go through the processing required for most cotton.
Not necessarily. The truth is that not all natural fibers are organic. Similarly, they aren’t necessarily harvested or processed using sustainable methods, and it’s hard to track down the source of bamboo fibers. Although bamboo itself is fast-growing and typically sustainable, it’s often processed using questionable methods and products like carbon disulphide. Whether the dyes contain toxic chemicals that are dangerous to you, as well as the factory workers and nearby ecosystems, or the factories follow unethical workplace practices, you’re better off getting sheets with a MADE IN GREEN by Oekotex certification.
Not necessarily. Processing practices are just as important for sustainability as growing and harvesting practices. Some of the dyes frequently used in factories that don’t follow ethical practices contain lead, mercury, other mutagenic chemicals and endocrine disruptors that are highly toxic to inhale causing damage to the nervous system.
Eucalyptus fibers must undergo a viscose process, which uses chemicals that are potentially dangerous to both workers and the environment according to the Federal Trade Commission. Eucalyptus is not considered a sustainable source of fibers, and harvesting it frequently leads to soil erosion, degradation of waterways, and depletion of natural land resources. It is not yet known if these sheets maintain the natural anti-bacterial and hypoallergenic properties of eucalyptus given the intensive chemical-heavy process they must go through.
The reality is that we don’t know much about the benefits of silver in wearable textiles, if it harms the healthy bacteria living on skin, or is good or bad for the human body over prolonged contact. Plus, only 7% of these sheets is silver, and it’s unclear what the rest of the material is made from or how it’s processed.
Although many claim that these sheets keep you cool and feel silky, the truth is that microfiber is another name for polyester, which is a synthetic material. When washed, microfiber sheets release harmful microplastics that are bad for humans and the environment alike.
Supima Cotton Sateen Sheets
Using premium fibers is key to producing magnificent sheets. Supima is made from fine, extra-long fibers (1.5 inches instead of 1 inch). You’ll feel it in the silky soft, smooth sheets that get even softer over time.
Supima fibers also make the sheets strong and durable. They wick away moisture, and that makes the fabric naturally anti-microbial and hypoallergenic. Your sheets will keep their color wash after wash because Supima absorbs dye – organic, of course – much better than standard fibers.
Sateen sheets use a four over, one under weave, which leads to a smoother, softer, more luxurious feel. When Supima cotton combines with the already silky, soft sateen weave, the result is perfect for curling up in. The secret to the velvety, smooth feel is the 80s x 100s yarn we use.
Organic Cotton Percale Sheets
Percale is a crisp, breathable cotton weave that is cool and soft to the touch. It’s made by weaving organic cotton yarns in a denser, 90 x 110 square weave that makes them more robust, more absorbent, and quick to dry. These sheets, woven one over and one under, hold their color and get softer with each wash. Smooth and matte, lightweight and breathable, they’re naturally hypoallergenic and wick away moisture (thanks to the organic cotton).

There is no catch. Our founder grew frustrated with how many brands were passing off products as high quality at expensive prices and wanted to find a better way. As a result, our products are woven from superior materials to create a better experience, in and out of bed.
According to Philip Tierno, professor of pathology at NYU Langone Health “over time, a lot of debris settles into the core of the mattress and pillows.” All the stuff that comes off your bodies or off your partners’ or pets ends up in the mattresses’ unwashable center far from where even front loaders can reach. All the dead skin cells, dust mites, and other allergens are common triggers for allergies. All of our pillowcases come with a separate pillow protector with a concealed zipper closure to keep out allergens and dust mites collecting in the pillow and our pillowcases have an overlapping envelope flap closure as added protection.
First, trust us when we say you won’t want to store your sheets because you’ll want to use them #allthetime. However, if you decide to switch it up between our organic percale or our Supima sateen, you can use the Cornucopia Bag your sheets come with. It makes great dust-free storage for your sheets (or anything else).
Cornucopia Living is redefining sustainable luxury with affordable high-quality and socially responsible products to offer our customers meaningful experiences that are both intimate and deeply satisfying.
We are passionate about creating sheets that most people can afford, that are durable, safe for your body, and give you the absolute best sleep experience.
You believe in meaningful brands that are socially responsible, and we believe in living up to that. We develop and design supple fabrics to be as high quality and sustainable as they are beautiful and functional so that you can sink into sleep comfortably and with a clear conscience.
At our core, we believe people and planet come first. Our sustainable practices and materials give you luxury with a clean (green) conscience. We bring out the best of nature using science instead of overworking the production process or using toxic chemicals like carbon disulphide.
When you buy from Cornucopia, you can be confident you’re purchasing sustainably harvested materials processed in a way that’s good for both people and planet. In fact, you’ll see each of our products carries the coveted MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® label.
Mass market brick and mortar retailers give you the cheapest products they can, keeping their profits intact while the luxury brands mark up on design. And then you have newbie e-tailers who tell you they are better than the retailers but in fact expensive and have not yet aced their production. You are left with a hard choice between synthetic blends of dubious quality and expensive natural fibers with limited designs. Cornucopia puts the choice back in your hands.
GOTS, or the Global Organic Textile Standard, is a certification that is one of the most difficult to achieve. Products receiving the highly coveted GOTS certification must:
- Be comprised of at least 95% organic fiber
- Never be treated with chlorine bleach or any other toxic substances
- Use only non-toxic dyes that are also biodegradable
- Be produced in a socially responsible workplace
The MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® certification verifies that each product can be traced through every step and location of the manufacturing process and we use only socially responsible facilities and can guarantee that our products are:
- Tested for harmful substances
- Follow environmentally-friendly production practices
- Manufactured in socially conscious working conditions
- Created using transparent supply chains
Unlike our competitors, we don’t believe in charging a premium for high-quality products. We use the highest quality cotton yarn made from sustainably grown and harvested fibers to create a superior fabric that is soft, supple, and durable so you can get the best night’s rest.

Sustainable processes start with growing and harvesting. The Supima cotton we use for our sateen sheets is grown in the U.S. by small family farmers and has superior fibers 1.5” long (compared with the other varieties where the fibers are just 1”).
Supima is renowned for:
- Absorbing dye better than standard fibers, leading to vibrant color, which allows your sheets to keep their brilliant color wash after wash.
- Softer fabric because its extra-long fibers give you silky, smooth sheets that get even softer over time.
- Stronger fibers make your sheets stronger and more durable, wick away moisture, and give them anti-microbial and hypoallergenic properties.
We use 80s x 100s Supima cotton yarn to perfect the luxurious qualities of the sateen weave for longer-lasting sheets, lustrous color, and lavish smoothness. And our processing takes place in sustainable and ethical workplaces according to MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX standards and using GOTS dyes.
